Microchipping for Dogs & Cats
At Animal Republic Veterinary Hospital and ER, we believe in protecting pets with permanent identification. Microchipping is a safe and effective way to ensure your dog or cat can be reunited with you if they are ever lost. A microchip provides peace of mind by giving your pet a lifelong ID that cannot be removed or lost like a collar or tag.
What is a Microchip?
A microchip is a tiny electronic device, about the size of a grain of rice, that contains a unique identification number. When scanned by a veterinary clinic or animal shelter, this number links to your contact information in a national pet registry
Size and Safety
About 12mm long (similar to a grain of rice)
Made of biocompatible material, safe for dogs and cats
Does not require batteries and lasts your pet’s entire life
Microchips do not track location — they store ID only — and do not cause pain or long-term discomfort.
How Is It Implanted?
Implanting a microchip is a quick and simple procedure, similar to a routine vaccine injection.
No anesthesia required
Inserted under the skin between the shoulder blades
Most pets do not react or only feel mild pressure
At Animal Republic, we ensure gentle handling to keep your pet calm and comfortable.
Why Microchipping Matters
Permanent Identification – Unlike collars or tags, it cannot fall off or be removed
Higher Return Rate – Pets with microchips are up to 20x more likely to be reunited with their families
Required for International Travel – Many countries mandate microchipping before issuing health certificates
